Lake Tarawera Outlet (Te Tapahoro) is a boat-access lakeside camp in the Bay of Plenty with a shelter, fire pit, bush walk and a hot thermal waterhole.

(1)

Tucked into the Lake Tarawera Scenic Reserve in the Bay of Plenty, this large and attractive lakeside campsite sits at the lake's outlet, also known as Te Tapahoro. There's no road access here — you'll reach it by boat or on foot only, which keeps it quiet and away from the crowds.

It's a relaxed, scenic spot right alongside the water, popular for trout fishing and water sports, with a jetty and boat launching available. Facilities include non-powered tent sites, a shelter for cooking, a fire pit and a long-drop toilet, and the site is wheelchair accessible with assistance.

A bush walk track winds nearby, so keep to the marked route if you head out exploring — it's easy to lose your way otherwise. There's also a hot thermal waterhole close by, a real bonus after a day on the lake. With its chilled atmosphere and beautiful surroundings, it's an easy place to settle in for a night or two by the water.
