Lake Poaka Campsite

Campsite in the Canterbury region

Lake Poaka Campsite is a basic Canterbury lakeside spot in the Mackenzie country, with canal views over the fence and handy access to nearby tracks.

(2)

Right on the edge of Lake Poaka, with one of the Mackenzie hydro canals just over the fence, this is a simple lakeside spot to pitch up for the night. Open water and canal views are the main draw, and it's well liked by those who've stayed.

The setup is basic: non-powered tent sites, non-flush toilets and water from the stream. Come with everything you need and you'll be right. Hop the fence and you're straight at the canal.

Good staging point for trips further afield around the Twizel area, including walks like the Hooker Valley track. Quiet, scenic, and easy to settle in for the night by the water.
