Koitiata Stream

Campsite in the Manawatu-Whanganui region

Koitiata Stream is a wild, free campsite in the Manawatu-Whanganui dunes with a great swimming beach, room for about one car, and no facilities.

(1)

Tucked into the dunes alongside the Koitiata Stream, near the small coastal settlement of Koitiata, this is a genuinely wild, free spot. There's a great beach close by that's good for a swim on a warm day.

It's a small spot with room for one or two vehicles, and it can get a bit overgrown. There are no facilities here, so come fully self-sufficient. Access can be tidal, so check before heading in as you may find yourself stuck for a while.

The setting is exposed and it can get windy overnight, but on a calm evening it's quiet and peaceful, right out in the middle of nowhere. A simple, scenic overnighter for anyone who likes their camping rugged and off the beaten track.
