Hawdon Shelter Campsite is a scenic Canterbury spot on a grassy plateau in Arthur's Pass National Park, with sheltered sites overlooking the river flat.

(3)

Tucked into the lower Hawdon Valley in Arthur's Pass National Park, this scenic Canterbury campsite sits on a grassy plateau overlooking the river flat. There's plenty of open space to spread out, with trees dotted around to help you find a sheltered spot out of the wind, and you can drive around a fair bit more than is visible from the shelter.

Facilities include non-powered tent sites, well-maintained long-drop toilets, an untreated tap water supply (boil before use), and a shelter for cooking. It's a popular, highly rated spot and not too far from Christchurch, making it an easy escape into the national park.

Access is via a gravel road that crosses a narrow single-lane bridge. This is fine for off-road caravans, but drivers of large camper-vans or standard caravans should take care.
