Out at the top of the Marlborough Sounds, this one sits right at the water's edge looking across to Rangitoto ki te Tonga/D'Urville Island. The pass itself is the real drawcard, a narrow channel where the tide absolutely rips through, and plenty of folk rate it one of their favourite spots in the country.

It's set up well for getting on the water, with a boat ramp and jetty, so it makes a natural jumping-off point for D'Urville Island. Good for fishing, swimming and kayaking too.

Tent and non-powered sites only, with flush toilets, a cold shower and tap water that needs boiling before you drink it. Worth noting dogs aren't allowed. Wheelchair access is possible with a bit of help.
