Campsite in the Bay of Plenty region
Dickey Flat is a quiet riverside campsite in the Bay of Plenty's Kaimai Mamaku Conservation Park, with crystal-clear swimming holes and walks to bridges and an old tunnel.
Tucked beside the Waitawheta River in the Kaimai Mamaku Conservation Park, Dickey Flat is a quiet, sheltered riverside campsite popular with those after a peaceful night. The river runs crystal clear, with trout and some great swimming holes downstream, and good tree cover makes it a favourite for hammocks.
It's a well-liked, considerate spot with non-powered tent sites, non-flush toilets and water available from the stream. Note that tent sites are not accessible by vehicle, so it's not suitable for caravans or rooftop tents at the tent area, and no fires are permitted. A year-round liquor ban applies, and the ranger does the rounds in the morning (around 8am) to collect fees, so it pays to bring cash.
Nearby walking tracks add to the appeal, with fun bridges and an old tunnel to explore. All up, it's a beautiful, restful base for swimming, walking and unwinding by the water.
