Diamond Lake Campsite

Campsite in the Otago region

(2)

Diamond Lake Campsite sits near the shores of Diamond Lake on the edge of Mt Aspiring National Park, in the Glenorchy area of Otago. The setting is scenic, with great views across the lake and surrounding mountain country, and it's a fine base for swimming, fishing or kayaking. Anglers are often seen working the water here. The site itself is basic and compact: it's largely a gravel area best suited to sleeping in vehicles, with only a couple of grass spots for tents. Facilities are minimal but functional, with non-flush toilets and water available from the stream. If you're after a quiet, no-frills overnight spot in a stunning alpine-lake setting rather than a developed campground, this fits the bill. Come prepared to be self-sufficient and treat or boil stream water before drinking.
