Campsite in the Southland region
Deer Flat Campsite is a spacious grassy site by the Eglinton River in northern Fiordland, with beech forest, mountain views and good fly fishing.
Right beside the Eglinton River, this grassy clearing is fringed with small pockets of beech forest and looks out to the mountains. There's heaps of room, so you can pitch under the trees or out in the open, whatever suits.
The Eglinton is good for fly fishing, so bring a rod if that's your thing. Facilities are basic but do the job: non-powered tent sites, non-flush toilets, water from the stream, and fire pits for campfires except during fire bans.
As with much of Fiordland, the sandflies here can be a real pain, so pack plenty of repellent. A relaxed spot to base yourself for a bit of exploring around the northern end of the park.
