Deer Flat Campsite

Campsite in the Southland region

Deer Flat Campsite is a spacious Fiordland riverside spot on the Eglinton with mountain views, beech forest, fishing and basic facilities.

(1)

Set in northern Fiordland National Park, Deer Flat Campsite sits beside the Eglinton River in a grassy clearing fringed by small pockets of beech forest. It's a spacious, scenic spot with great mountain and river views, and you can choose to pitch under the trees or out in the open.

The Eglinton is good for fly fishing, so bring a rod if that's your thing. Facilities are basic but useful: non-powered tent sites, non-flush toilets, water from the stream, and fire pits for campfires (except during fire bans).

As with much of Fiordland, sandflies can be a real nuisance here, so pack plenty of insect repellent. A relaxed, attractive base for exploring the surrounding national park.
