Beside the clear Te Waiti Stream, surrounded by nikau palms and tawa forest, this is a peaceful bush camp back in the hills near Ōpōtiki. Swimming holes are dotted along the river right next to camp, and it's a popular spot for a swim and a picnic.

There's good room for different setups, with picnic tables, fire pits, a BBQ, a long-drop toilet and water from the stream. The gravel road in is one-way and largely 2WD-friendly, with a couple of very shallow crossings along the way. The catch is the final 10 to 20 metres of access track down into the site, which is steep and rough. You'll want a 4WD to get in and out, cars won't manage it.

Best for smaller groups. You can wander further down the river to find more secluded spots if the main camp's busy.
