Campsite in the Canterbury region
Amberley Beach Camping Ground is a basic but handy overnight stop in the Hurunui district of North Canterbury, right by the beach and a convenient break on the run between Picton and Christchurch. The setting is a fenced grass field rather than anything fancy, but it does the job when you need somewhere to stop for the night. There are no bookings; you can pick up a free KiwiCash card or tag at the gate to get in. Facilities include powered and non-powered sites, toilets, a shower in the southern toilet block, and a cubicle for a solar shower in the northern block, plus a waste dump station for caravans and campervans. There's also a children's playground, tennis court and backboards. Note the water taps are gravity fed and not suitable for filling motorhome or caravan tanks. Dogs are permitted at the southern end of the camping ground, south of Chamberlain Avenue.
